About Richard Curtis, Psychodynamic Counsellor in Dorking, Surrey.

Hi, I'm Richard, a fully qualified  Counsellor with a BA Hons in psychodynamic counselling and additional qualifications in psychology.

As a registered member of the BACP, I work within their Ethical Framework, maintaining the highest standards of professional practice, confidentiality, and ongoing professional development. This ensures that the support I provide is safe, ethical, and centred around your individual needs.

I have extensive experience supporting individuals facing a wide range of challenges, including addiction, grief and loss, separation and divorce, abusive relationships, childhood trauma, neurodiversity, disability, and emotional wellbeing. My professional background includes working within addiction services, special educational needs, advocacy, and community support settings, as well as supporting children, young people, and adults in my current welfare role.

Throughout my career, I have seen how difficult life experiences can affect people in profoundly different ways. While many of us face similar struggles such as loss, relationship difficulties, anxiety, or low self-esteem, our experiences are deeply personal and shaped by our individual histories.

It was through this understanding that I developed a strong interest in psychodynamic counselling, an approach that explores how past experiences and relationships can influence our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in the present. By gaining a deeper understanding of these patterns, counselling can help create meaningful and lasting change.

Drawing on both my professional experience and therapeutic training, I provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space where clients can explore challenges such as:

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Grief and bereavement
  • Addiction and recovery
  • Childhood trauma
  • Abusive or unhealthy relationships
  • Neurodiversity-related challenges
  • Life transitions and identity issues
  • Relationship difficulties and emotional well-being
